Once you use flour sack dishtowels, you'll never go back to the terry cloth ones from the department stores. The name "flour sack" comes from the times when flour was sold and packaged in cotton sacks, sewn at the top with heavy cotton thread. The thrifty housewife saved these cotton flour sacks (and the thread sewn at the top) and used them for dishtowels, usually doing a simple little hand embroidery on them to brighten up her kitchen.
